errotu > therapeutic environment

The design of therapeutic environments, as part of the care system for people with dementia, understands which areas of the environment, when lived in, produce well-being and which cause conflicts, reduce their ability to enjoy themselves and limit the skills that they can still maintain.

Therapeutic environments minimise the effect that dementia causes to people’s skills, they compensate the limitations of people with dementia and reinforce positive behaviour (less agitation, lower medication, less dependency in everyday activities).
